If you’re looking for an affordable international flight from Mumbai with full-service benefits, my recent journey on Kuwait Airways from Mumbai to Bahrain via Kuwait might surprise you. This was my first time flying Kuwait Airways, and honestly, the experience was much better than I expected—especially considering the price I paid.
Why I Chose Kuwait Airways Over Air India
For my Bahrain trip, I booked a round-trip ticket from Mumbai to Bahrain via Kuwait on Kuwait Airways. The booking was done through Skyscanner, and the total cost came to just ₹15,000 return, which was significantly cheaper compared to Air India and other airlines operating on the same route.
Even though I hold Air India Gold Elite status, paying almost double the fare didn’t make sense. At this price point, Kuwait Airways offered unbeatable value, making it an easy decision.
Booking Benefits at a Glance

Web Check-in & Airport Experience at Mumbai T2
I completed web check-in one day before departure, which saved a lot of time at the airport. Since Kuwait Airways has a dedicated counter for web check-in passengers at Mumbai T2, I completely avoided the long economy queues.
During the check-in process at Mumbai T2, I faced an unusual baggage policy from Kuwait Airways that I hadn’t encountered on other international flights before. I was carrying one small cabin-size bag and a compact backpack, both easily fitting into the overhead storage bin, and I intended to carry both onboard without checking in any extra luggage.
However, at the counter, I was informed that since my backpack did not contain a laptop, it would be considered a second cabin bag, and two cabin bags are not permitted. As per their policy, only one cabin bag plus a laptop bag is allowed, and any backpack without a laptop is treated as an additional piece. Due to this, I was asked to check in one of my bags, despite it being small and cabin-friendly.
This rule felt a bit strange and restrictive, especially considering the backpack was compact and well within cabin size limits. Additionally, a separate baggage sticker was issued specifically for the flight luggage, which is something I hadn’t seen earlier on international flights and was a new experience.
While the check-in staff were polite and professional, this is something travellers should be aware of in advance to avoid last-minute surprises at the airport.
After collecting my boarding pass, I proceeded towards immigration, where I used the e-gates. These are still surprisingly underutilized, and if you’re registered, you’ll clear immigration in minutes—something I always recommend frequent international travellers to do.
Lounge Access: Adani East Wing Lounge Mumbai
Post-immigration, I headed to the Adani East Wing Lounge at Mumbai T2, which I accessed for free using my Amex Platinum Charge Card. The lounge was peaceful during early morning hours, offering comfortable seating, decent food options, and a relaxed environment—perfect before a long international flight.
After spending about an hour, I made my way to the boarding gate.
Boarding Experience on Kuwait Airways
Boarding was conducted smoothly and systematically:
- Business Class passengers
- Elderly passengers and families with kids
- Economy Class passengers
There was no chaos, and the process was well-managed.
Economy Class Cabin & Seat Comfort
Once onboard, the aircraft felt surprisingly premium for an economy cabin. Kuwait Airways clearly invests in maintaining a comfortable flying experience.
Cabin Highlights:
✈️ Comfortable and well-cushioned seats
𦡠Spacious legroom compared to many economy cabins
πΊ Good-quality infotainment system
π₯ Front camera & downward camera view, allowing live aircraft views during take-off and landing
Watching the aircraft nose view and ground view on the screen added a unique experience that aviation enthusiasts will absolutely love.
Take-off, Food & In-flight Service
The take-off from Mumbai was smooth, and meal service began shortly after. One thing to note: the food tray did not have a veg/non-veg label, so I had to confirm with the cabin crew to ensure it was vegetarian.
Food & Service Review:
π½️ Food quality: Average
π©✈️ Cabin crew service: Okay but limited
⚠️ Only two cabin crew members were serving the entire economy cabin
π One crew member came across as slightly rude, though overall service was acceptable
Nothing extraordinary, but acceptable for the price paid.
Landing & Arrival at Kuwait International Airport
The landing at Kuwait International Airport was smooth and on time, which is always a big plus. Transit passengers were guided efficiently, making the layover experience fairly straightforward.
Final Verdict: Is Kuwait Airways Worth It?

Pros:
Excellent pricing for a full-service airline
Comfortable economy cabin
Good inflight entertainment with aircraft cameras
Smooth airport and boarding experience
