Air India Maharaja Club Gold Kit Unboxing & Review: Is Elite Status Worth It?
Ever since the Tata Group took the reins and merged Club Vistara with Flying Returns to create the all-new Air India Maharaja Club, frequent flyers have been eagerly waiting to see how the airline elevates its premium tier experience.
The wait is officially over. Today, my physical Air India Maharaja Club Gold welcome kit finally landed on my doorstep.
If you are a frequent flyer chasing elite airline status in India, you are probably wondering: What does the new physical kit look like in person? And more importantly, are the Maharaja Club Gold benefits actually worth the loyalty hustle?
Let’s dive into a detailed unboxing, review the newly upgraded 2026 program benefits, and break down exactly what this status means for your next luxury travel journey.
Unboxing the New Air India Maharaja Club Gold Kit
Air India has completely overhauled its design language, leaning heavily into a premium aesthetic that beautifully balances modern luxury with vintage aviation nostalgia. The presentation box itself arrives in a deep, elegant card stock that feels distinctively premium compared to the old Flying Returns envelopes.
Here is exactly what you find inside the Gold welcome kit:
1. The Gold Membership Card
The anchor of the kit is the newly styled Maharaja Club Gold membership card. It features a clean, minimalist layout displaying your name, digital tier data, and most importantly, the globally recognized Star Alliance Gold logo. This small logo is your golden ticket to premium treatment at over 1,300 airports worldwide.
2. Gold-Tone Personalized Luggage Tags
The kit includes two personalized, metallic gold-accented bag tags equipped with sturdy leather straps. They mirror the design of the elite membership card and serve as a subtle, elegant luxury travel flex on your luggage handles. The build quality feels heavy, durable, and ready to survive international baggage belts.
3. Vintage-Inspired Acrylic Maharaja Coasters
This is easily the most charming addition to the kit and a massive win for aviation geeks and collectors. Air India has included a set of premium acrylic tea coasters featuring the iconic Maharaja motif styled in vintage Air India advertising art. It is a brilliant nod to the airline’s rich heritage and adds genuine collectible value to the unboxing experience.
Air India Maharaja Club Gold Perks & Benefits (2026 Upgrades)
While the physical unboxing is incredibly satisfying, the real substance lies in how this status transforms your airport experience. Thanks to Air India's massive April 2026 loyalty program enhancements, the Gold tier is more rewarding than ever before.

How to Earn Maharaja Club Gold Status in 2026
Air India recently made it significantly easier to fast-track your way up the elite ranks by lowering the qualification thresholds, particularly benefiting domestic and regional frequent flyers.
To qualify for or renew your Gold status within a rolling 12-month window, you must meet either of these criteria:
Earn 30,000 Tier Points (with a minimum of 9,000 Tier Points earned directly on Air India marketed flights).
Fly 45 eligible segments across Air India and partner lines (with a minimum of 8 segments flown on Air India mainline). This is down from the previous requirement of 60 segments!
Note: You can also now accumulate and spend Maharaja Points across the low-cost network on Air India Express flights, opening up even faster regional accrual paths.
The Verdict: Is It Worth It?
Air India’s new Maharaja Club Gold kit proves that the airline isn’t just upgrading its aircraft cabins; it is actively modernizing its premium customer experience. The inclusion of bespoke collectible items like the vintage Maharaja coasters shows a level of thought that was completely absent from the old loyalty programs.
If you travel internationally even two or three times a year, the complimentary airport lounge access, extra 20 kg baggage allowance, and companion priority extensions will save you tens of thousands of rupees while removing all typical airport friction.
