On my recent journey flying back home to Mumbai in Cathay Pacific Economy Class, I had an unexpected lounge-hopping adventure at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG).
While HKG is famous for its flagship airline lounges, it also boasts an incredible lineup of independent lounges accessible through credit card perks. During my transit, I had the opportunity to check out the Kyra Lounge, which I accessed completely for free using the Priority Pass membership provided by my Qatar Airways IndusInd Bank Avios Credit Card.
If you are planning to visit, there is an important detail you need to know first: there are actually two Kyra Lounges at Hong Kong Airport. Here is my experience visiting the second location, what to expect inside, and why proper lounge research before your trip makes all the difference!
The Tale of Two Kyra Lounges at HKG
Before diving into the review, let's clear up the location situation to help you avoid any confusion:
- Kyra Lounge 1 (Near Gate 23, Level 6): The original, award-winning Kyra Lounge that opened in 2024. It is known for its incredible design inspired by nature, dynamic lighting, and stellar dining reviews.
- Kyra Lounge 2 (Near Gate 40, Level 7): The newer addition, opened in early 2026. This space previously operated as the Chase Sapphire Lounge before being rebranded under the Kyra brand. It is situated close to the American Express Centurion Lounge in the West Hall.
Because the Gate 23 location was further away and I hadn't researched the two locations thoroughly beforehand, I missed out on checking out the award-winning first location. Instead, I headed to the rebranded Gate 40 location—which turned out to be a pleasantly serene experience in its own right!

How I Accessed the Lounge for Free
Flying Economy Class on Cathay Pacific doesn't normally come with lounge privileges unless you hold higher-tier Oneworld status. However, having the Qatar Airways IndusInd Bank Avios Credit Card comes with complimentary Priority Pass access, which seamlessly unlocked entry to Kyra Lounge.
The check-in process at the front desk was smooth and took less than two minutes—a simple swipe of the digital Priority Pass card and a scan of my Cathay Pacific boarding pass.
Ambiance, Seating, & First Impressions
Stepping into the lounge during the evening, the very first thing that struck me was how peaceful and uncrowded it was. HKG lounges can often get packed in the evening rush, but this space was almost entirely empty.
Having visited this exact space back when it was operating as the Chase Sapphire Lounge, much of the architectural footprint and high-end layout remains comfortably familiar.
Abundant Seating: There is a vast selection of seating choices, ranging from deep-cushioned armchairs and high-top communal tables to quiet private booths perfect for taking calls or finishing work.
Spacious Vibe: The high ceilings and open design make the entire 4,200 sq ft space feel airy and relaxed.
Cleanliness: With low guest traffic during my visit, the lounge was immaculate, quiet, and offered a welcome respite from the bustling concourse.
Food & Beverage Options
Despite being a pay-in / Priority Pass lounge, the food and beverage section is well-maintained and thoughtfully stocked.
The food counter featured a mix of hot Asian dishes, international comfort foods, fresh salads, and desserts. There is also a full-service bar stocking a variety of wines, spirits, beers, and non-alcoholic beverages.
My Experience:
Since I had just spent time indulging at the neighboring Amex Centurion Lounge, I wasn't particularly hungry during my 30-minute stay here. However, I couldn't resist trying a small plate of their mashed potatoes—which were smooth, creamy, and well-seasoned!
Even if you are just dropping in for a quick drink or a light bite before your flight, the culinary quality holds up well.
Final Thoughts: Was it Worth the Visit?
The Kyra Lounge near Gate 40 is a hidden gem if you are looking for a quiet, spacious, and uncrowded lounge experience to relax, recharge your devices, or grab a quiet drink before a long flight.
Pro-Tip for Travelers: If you have extra time during your layover at Hong Kong International Airport, do your airport navigation research in advance! While the Gate 40 location was great for peace and quiet, the original Kyra Lounge near Gate 23 is widely celebrated for its unique concept and award-winning design. If you only have time for one, head to Gate 23 first—but if you want guaranteed tranquility and ample seating, the Gate 40 location is a fantastic alternative.
