Ibis Muscat Review: 3 Nights Stay Using Accor Points | Budget Hotel in Muscat with Half Board

During my recent trip to Muscat, Oman, I stayed for 3 nights at Ibis Muscat, a budget-friendly property under the Accor group that I booked entirely using Accor ALL reward points. If you're someone who loves maximizing credit card points and hotel loyalty programs (like me), this property offers excellent value in one of the Middle East’s most culturally rich cities.

This stay turned out to be not just economical, but also comfortable, convenient, and surprisingly rewarding—literally!

Location: Perfect for Both Leisure & Business Travelers

One of the biggest advantages of Ibis Muscat is its strategic location in the heart of the city’s commercial and shopping district.

The hotel is just a short drive away from key attractions like:

  • Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque
  • Royal Opera House Muscat
  • Oman Avenues Mall
  • Muscat Grand Mall
  • Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex

It’s also very convenient for travelers:

  • 15 minutes from Muscat International Airport
  • Close to the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre

Whether you're visiting for business or leisure, this location works perfectly.

About Muscat: A Blend of Tradition & Modern Charm

Muscat is a fascinating city with over 2000 years of history, once serving as a major trading port between East and West.

Today, it offers a unique mix of:

  • Stunning white-stone architecture
  • Traditional souks like Muttrah Souq
  • Scenic seaside Corniche
  • Modern malls and luxury experiences

From cultural landmarks to relaxing coastal views, Muscat truly feels like a hidden gem in the Middle East.

Booking Using Accor Points (Best Value Stay)

As a frequent Accor user, I booked this stay using 5000 Accor ALL reward points, which made it extremely cost-effective.

💡 Pro Tip: Budget brands like Ibis often provide excellent redemption value, especially in international destinations like Oman.

Dining Experience: Half Board Stay

I opted for a half board package, which included:

  • Daily breakfast
  • Choice of lunch or dinner

I chose dinner on all 3 nights, and the experience was quite satisfying.

🍽️ Oopen Restaurant

The in-house restaurant, Oopen, serves a mix of international cuisine.

Highlights:

  • Decent variety of vegetarian options (important for Indian travelers 🇮🇳)
  • Consistent quality across all 3 days
  • Comfortable dining environment

Breakfast also had a few vegetarian options, making it convenient for my dietary preference.

You also have the option to order meals in-room, which is a great plus.

Sustainability Initiative: Earn Points by Skipping Housekeeping ♻️

This was one of the most interesting and unique aspects of my stay.Ibis Muscat offers a sustainability initiative where: 👉 If you opt out of daily room cleaning, you earn Accor reward points.Since I was staying alone, I chose this option and received additional points.

💡 This is honestly one of the smartest eco-friendly initiatives I’ve seen:

  • Encourages sustainability
  • Reduces water and energy usage
  • Rewards guests directly

More hotels should adopt this model!

Important Travel Tip: Taxi Restrictions in Muscat Hotels

One important thing to be aware of while staying in Muscat—this applies not just to Ibis but across many hotels in the city—is the restriction on taxi pickups inside hotel premises.

During my stay, I noticed that:

  • Regular app-based taxis are not allowed to enter hotel premises for pickup
  • Only premium/luxury cars can be booked directly to the hotel via apps

These luxury rides are significantly more expensive, which can really increase your travel costs

Honestly, this has to be one of the most impractical and confusing rules I’ve come across while traveling internationally—it simply lacks common sense, especially for budget-conscious travelers.

My Workaround at Ibis Muscat

Since Ibis Muscat is located within the city, I found an easy solution: 👉 I just walked a few steps outside the hotel premises and pinned a nearby location

👉 This allowed me to book normal, affordable taxis without any issues. So if you're staying here, it's more of a minor inconvenience than a major problem.

Bigger Problem at Outskirts Hotels

However, this becomes a serious challenge if you're staying at remote or luxury properties.

I personally faced this issue at JW Marriott Hotel Muscat, where:

  • The property is located away from the main city
  • Walking outside isn't always practical
  • You're often forced to rely on expensive transport options

This can be quite stressful, especially if you're trying to manage costs or travel frequently within the city.

Final Tip

✔ If you're staying in central Muscat (like Ibis), this is manageable

❗ If you're booking a resort or outskirts hotel, factor in higher transport costs

Overall Experience

My 3-night stay at Ibis Muscat exceeded expectations for a budget hotel.

What I Loved:

✔ Excellent location

✔ Great value using Accor points

✔ Half board option with decent food

✔ Vegetarian-friendly meals

✔ Unique sustainability rewards program

✔ Reliable Accor brand consistency

What Could Be Better:

  • Limited food variety for longer stays
  • Rooms are basic (as expected from Ibis)

Accor All Gold Status Benefits

Staying at ibis Muscat as an Accor ALL Gold member has limited benefits as compared to other accor properties:

1. Complimentary Welcome Drink Vouchers

I redeemed my welcome drink at the restaurant which has good number of alcoholic and non alcoholic options.

2. Early Check-in & Late Check-out Options

Gold members enjoy priority for early check-in or late check-out, subject to availability. I did not need either as I reached Muscat late evening and checked out in morning.

3. Priority Welcome & In-Room Amenity

Expect a warm, personalized welcome at check-in through a Priority queue. No in room amenity was kept in the room during the stay.

4. Member Rate Discounts

As a Gold member, you get access to exclusive discounted rates not available to general bookings.

5. Bonus Reward Points

Earn bonus ALL reward points on your stay, helping you reach higher tiers or redeem free nights faster.

6. Complimentary Room Upgrade

Gold members can get room upgrade subject to availability. I was not upgraded and was alloted same room which i had booked.

Final Verdict: Is Ibis Muscat Worth It?

If you're looking for a budget-friendly hotel in Muscat that offers:

  • Great location
  • Reliable comfort
  • Good food options
  • Excellent value via points

Then Ibis Muscat is definitely worth considering. For points travelers and Accor loyalists, this is a no-brainer redemption option.

Conclusion

My stay at Ibis Muscat proved that you don’t always need luxury hotels to have a great experience. With smart use of points, good location, and thoughtful perks like sustainability rewards, this property offers incredible value.

If you're planning a trip to Oman, this is a solid and practical choice that won’t disappoint.
