Malaysia Trip from India via Singapore – 8 Day Itinerary with Free Marriott Stays & Lounge Access
Malaysia has always been on my bucket list, and this 8-day trip to Malaysia via Singapore turned out to be one of the most seamless and value-packed international trips from India. From the futuristic skyline of Kuala Lumpur to the ultra-efficient transport of Singapore, this itinerary perfectly balanced luxury, comfort, and smart travel using points and elite benefits.
Let me share my complete experience — including flights, hotels, visa process, immigration, lounges, transport tips, and money-saving hacks.
Introduction to Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur, the vibrant capital of Malaysia, is a perfect blend of modern skyscrapers and rich cultural heritage. Dominated by the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, the city offers world-class shopping malls, diverse street food, efficient public transport, and easy connectivity to nearby destinations like Putrajaya and Genting Highlands. Whether you're looking for luxury stays, affordable travel, or visa-free convenience, Kuala Lumpur is one of the best international destinations for Indian travelers.
Flights – Mumbai → Singapore → Kuala Lumpur ✈️
For this trip, I decided to maximize comfort and break the journey with a 1-night stop in Singapore each way and earned 10x points by booking through Amex Platinum Charge Card.
Breaking the journey in Singapore made the trip more relaxed and allowed me to enjoy Changi Airport and the city twice.
Hotel Stays – Luxury for Free Using Points 🏨
🇲🇾 5 Nights – Marriott Putrajaya (FREE Stay)
I booked 5 nights at Marriott Putrajaya completely free using Marriott Bonvoy points.
Being a Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite member, I enjoyed:
Complimentary room upgrade to junior suite
Late checkout
Complimentary Breakfast
Putrajaya is quieter than central KL and offers beautiful views and peaceful surroundings.
🇸🇬 1 Night – Ibis Styles MacPherson (Singapore)
I had to spend entire night at Jewel in Changi Airport because ibis styles canceled my booking at 6 pm on day of check-in as I dint guarantee my booking with credit card and as it was Singapore National Day all other hotels were sold out leaving with me no option.
🇸🇬 1 Night – Aloft Singapore (Return Stop)
Stayed at Aloft Novena while flying back from Kuala Lumpur.
A trendy Marriott property offering stylish rooms and great connectivity.
Malaysia Visa for Indians – FREE Entry 🇮🇳🇲🇾
One of the best parts of visiting Malaysia right now:
✅ Indian citizens can visit Malaysia visa-free for 30 days.
Requirements:
Fill Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) within 3 days of travel
Return flight tickets
Proof of accommodation
Passport valid for at least 6 months
The process was simple and completely hassle-free.
Immigration Experience – Singapore & Malaysia
🇸🇬 Singapore Immigration
Super fast and seamless thanks to automated e-gates.
It took less than 2 minutes to clear immigration both times.
🇲🇾 Kuala Lumpur Immigration
Smooth but manual process.
There was a long queue since I landed in the evening, but overall no issues faced.
Public Transport – World Class Connectivity 🚇
Both Singapore and Malaysia have excellent public transport systems.
🇸🇬 Singapore
MRT + buses
Digital payment options widely accepted
Clean, efficient, and tourist-friendly
🇲🇾 Kuala Lumpur
LRT, MRT, Monorail, Buses
I bought the Rapid KL Card, which works across all major networks.
Currency Exchange – Important Lesson 💳
I relied fully on credit cards since they are widely accepted in Kuala Lumpur.
However, I realized that:
Some buses (especially Putrajaya Sentral to IOI City Mall) accept only cash.
Rapid KL card is not accepted everywhere.
Grab is available but more expensive than buses.
Pro Tip: Always carry some Malaysian Ringgit cash.
Lounge Access – Maximum Value from Elite Status ✨
One of the highlights of this trip was enjoying multiple airport lounges for FREE.
This trip truly proved how airline status and credit card lounge benefits can elevate your travel experience without flying business class.
Day 1 – Mumbai to Singapore & Overnight at Changi Airport 🇸🇬✈️
My Southeast Asia journey began with an evening flight from Mumbai to Singapore on Air India (Economy Class). The flight was smooth and comfortable, and I landed at the award-winning Singapore Changi Airport excited to begin my trip.
However, the trip took an unexpected turn.
Hotel Booking Cancelled at the Last Minute
I had booked a 1-night stay at Ibis Styles MacPherson Singapore for my transit. Unfortunately, around 6 PM, I received a notification that my booking had been cancelled. With very limited last-minute hotel options and peak evening pricing in Singapore, I decided not to overpay for a short overnight stay.
Instead, I made the most of what Changi Airport offers — and honestly, it turned out to be a unique experience.
Overnight at Changi Airport – A Surprisingly Comfortable Experience 🛫
Singapore Changi Airport is consistently ranked among the best airports in the world, and this experience proved why.
Since I hold unlimited complimentary lounge access via Priority Pass, it became a lifesaver that night.
I accessed the Changi Lounge at Jewel not once, not twice — but three times during my overnight stay.
Lesson Learned
This experience reinforced two key travel lessons:
Always have a backup plan for hotel stays, especially during short transits.
Lounge access (via credit cards or Priority Pass) can completely transform unexpected travel disruptions.
What could have been a stressful situation turned into a comfortable airport experience — all thanks to smart travel planning and lounge benefits.
Day 2 – Arrival in Kuala Lumpur & Check-in at Marriott Putrajaya 🇲🇾
My journey into Malaysia began with a smooth evening arrival at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) from Singapore on a Batik Air economy flight. The short one-hour hop between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur makes this one of the easiest international connections in Southeast Asia.
Before departure, I had already contacted Marriott Putrajaya and reserved my slot on their complimentary airport shuttle service — a small step that made a big difference. Instead of spending on a taxi or Grab, my airport transfer was completely free and hassle-free.
The shuttle transfer from KLIA to Putrajaya was comfortable and convenient, and I reached the hotel around 8 PM.
Check-in at Marriott Putrajaya was smooth and efficient. As a Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite member, I always appreciate priority service and elite recognition. After a long travel day from Singapore, I decided to keep things simple — headed straight to my room, relaxed, and called it an early night to recharge for the exciting days ahead in Kuala Lumpur.
Pro Tip: Always check if your hotel offers a complimentary airport shuttle. It can save you both money and travel stress, especially in a new country.
Day 3 – Relaxing at Marriott Putrajaya & Visiting Petronas Twin Towers 🌆🏊♂️
After a long travel day, I decided to slow down and truly enjoy the facilities at Marriott Putrajaya. One of the biggest advantages of staying slightly outside central Kuala Lumpur is the space and resort-style atmosphere the property offers.
The hotel features a large swimming pool, water slides, and a mini water park, making it perfect not just for families but also for adults who want a relaxed, resort-like break. I spent the morning and early afternoon unwinding by the pool, enjoying the peaceful surroundings of Putrajaya. If you're planning a longer stay in Kuala Lumpur, dedicating at least one day to simply relax at your hotel is highly recommended.
By late afternoon, I headed towards the heart of Kuala Lumpur to explore one of Malaysia’s most iconic landmarks — KLCC Park and the Petronas Twin Towers.
Test
KLCC Park – The Green Heart of Kuala Lumpur 🌳
KLCC Park is a beautifully landscaped 50-acre urban park located right at the base of the Petronas Twin Towers. The park offers:
Scenic walking paths
A large musical fountain
Stunning sunset views of the skyline
A peaceful escape from the busy city streets
As evening approached, the atmosphere became magical. The golden hour lighting reflecting off the twin towers creates one of the most photogenic views in Southeast Asia.
Petronas Twin Towers – Icon of Malaysia 🏙️
Standing tall at 452 meters, the Petronas Twin Towers were once the tallest buildings in the world and remain the most recognizable landmark in Malaysia.
In the evening, the towers light up beautifully, making it the perfect time for photos and videos. Beneath the towers is Suria KLCC Mall, a premium shopping mall with international brands, restaurants, and cafes — ideal for spending a few hours exploring. If you have extra time, you can also book tickets to visit:
The Skybridge connecting the two towers
The Observation Deck for panoramic views of Kuala Lumpur
Even without going up, simply walking around the towers and KLCC Park is an unforgettable experience.
After soaking in the city skyline and enjoying the vibrant atmosphere, I headed back to Putrajaya, excited for the upcoming days of exploration in Malaysia.
Day 4 – Exploring Kuala Lumpur with Hop-On Hop-Off Bus 🚌🇲🇾
On Day 3, I decided to explore Kuala Lumpur in the most convenient and tourist-friendly way — by booking the Kuala Lumpur Hop-On Hop-Off Bus through Klook.
For first-time visitors, this is one of the best ways to cover major attractions in a single day without worrying about navigation, multiple metro changes, or expensive taxis.
Why I Chose the KL Hop-On Hop-Off Bus
Booking through Klook was simple and cost-effective. The ticket allowed unlimited rides for the day, meaning I could:
Get off at any major tourist attraction
Spend as much time as I wanted
Board the next bus at the same stop
Explore Kuala Lumpur at my own pace
The buses are double-decker, air-conditioned on the lower deck, and open-top on the upper deck — perfect for enjoying city views and taking photos.
Major Attractions Covered by the KL Hop-On Hop-Off Bus
The route covers most of Kuala Lumpur’s iconic landmarks, including:
Petronas Twin Towers & KLCC
KL Tower (Menara Kuala Lumpur)
Merdeka Square
National Mosque (Masjid Negara)
Chinatown (Petaling Street)
Central Market
Little India (Brickfields)
Instead of booking separate transport to each location, the bus conveniently connects all of them in a loop.
Is It Worth It?
If you have limited time in Kuala Lumpur, the Hop-On Hop-Off Bus is absolutely worth it. It helps you:
Save time
Avoid transport confusion
Get an overview of the city
Cover multiple landmarks in one day
However, if you plan to stay longer and are comfortable using MRT/LRT, public transport can be cheaper. But for ease and convenience — especially for tourists — this option is excellent.
Pro Tip for Travelers
Start early in the morning to maximize usage.
Sit on the upper deck (if weather permits) for the best skyline views.
Carry water and sunscreen, as Kuala Lumpur can get hot and humid.
Day 3 gave me a complete overview of Kuala Lumpur’s major attractions in a relaxed and structured way, making it one of the most productive sightseeing days of the trip.
Day 5 – Batu Caves & Perdana Botanical Gardens 🌈🌿
Day 4 in Kuala Lumpur was all about culture in the morning and nature in the afternoon — a perfect balance of iconic landmarks and peaceful green spaces.
Morning Visit – Batu Caves 🛕
I started my day early and headed to Batu Caves, one of the most famous tourist attractions in Malaysia, located about 30–40 minutes from central Kuala Lumpur.
Batu Caves is a Hindu temple complex set inside a massive limestone hill that is estimated to be over 400 million years old. The first thing you’ll notice is the towering 42.7-meter golden statue of Lord Murugan, which is one of the tallest Murugan statues in the world.
To reach the main cave temple, you need to climb 272 brightly colored steps — now painted in vibrant rainbow shades, making it one of the most Instagram-worthy spots in Kuala Lumpur.
What to Expect at Batu Caves:
Free entry to the main cave temple
Stunning panoramic views from the top
Impressive limestone formations inside
Religious and cultural significance for Hindus
The climb can be tiring, especially in humid weather, so I highly recommend:
Visiting early morning
Wearing comfortable shoes
Carrying water
The spiritual atmosphere combined with dramatic natural rock formations makes Batu Caves a must-visit in Kuala Lumpur.
Afternoon – Perdana Botanical Gardens 🌳
After a culturally rich morning, I spent the afternoon at Perdana Botanical Gardens, also known as the Lake Gardens of Kuala Lumpur.
Spread across 90+ hectares, this is one of the most peaceful and scenic green spaces in the city — perfect for slowing down after busy sightseeing days.
Highlights of Perdana Botanical Gardens:
Beautiful landscaped gardens
Large lake with scenic views
Jogging and walking tracks
Relaxed, less crowded atmosphere
Nearby attractions like Bird Park and Butterfly Park
It’s a refreshing contrast to the skyscrapers of KLCC. If you’re someone who enjoys photography, nature walks, or simply quiet time away from city noise, this place is ideal.
The well-maintained pathways and lush greenery make it perfect for a slow-paced afternoon.
Day 6 – Golf in Putrajaya, Thean Hou Temple & Shopping at IOI City Mall ⛳🛍️
Day 5 was a perfect mix of leisure, culture, and retail therapy — something Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya offer effortlessly.
Being a golf enthusiast, I couldn’t miss the opportunity to play in Malaysia. I headed to Palm Garden Golf Club in Putrajaya, located conveniently near IOI City Mall and just a short drive from Marriott Putrajaya.
The course is beautifully landscaped with:
Well-maintained fairways
Strategic bunkers
Lush tropical surroundings
A peaceful, premium atmosphere
Golfing in Malaysia is relatively affordable compared to many other international destinations, and the weather in the morning was ideal before the afternoon heat kicked in.
The clubhouse facilities were excellent, making it a relaxing and enjoyable sporting experience. If you're someone who enjoys combining travel with golf, Putrajaya is a fantastic destination.
Afternoon – Thean Hou Temple 🏯
In the afternoon, I visited Thean Hou Temple, one of the most beautiful Chinese temples in Southeast Asia.
Located on a hill overlooking Kuala Lumpur, the temple offers:
Stunning panoramic city views
Intricate Chinese architecture
Red lantern decorations
Peaceful spiritual ambiance
Dedicated to the Chinese sea goddess Mazu, the temple is a blend of Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism.
The vibrant red pillars and detailed carvings make it extremely photogenic. If you're visiting Kuala Lumpur, this temple is highly recommended for both cultural exploration and photography.
Evening – Shopping at IOI City Mall 🛍️
To end the day, I headed to IOI City Mall, one of the largest shopping malls in Malaysia, located close to Putrajaya.
The mall features:
International and local fashion brands
Electronics and lifestyle stores
Large food court and restaurants
Entertainment options
Malaysia is known for competitive pricing on fashion and lifestyle brands, making it a great shopping destination for Indian travelers.
Since IOI Mall is near Marriott Putrajaya, it’s very convenient for guests staying in the Putrajaya area.
Day 7 – Kuala Lumpur to Singapore & Gardens by the Bay ✈️🌆
Day 6 marked the end of my Malaysia stay and the beginning of my short Singapore stopover before flying back to India.
Early Morning Flight – Kuala Lumpur to Singapore
I had an early morning flight from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore on AirAsia (Economy Class). The flight duration is just about 1 hour, making it one of the quickest international routes in Southeast Asia.
I landed at Singapore Changi Airport around 10 AM. Changi is consistently ranked among the best airports in the world, and every time I transit here, the experience feels seamless and premium.
Check-in at Aloft Singapore Novena 🏨
After leaving the airport, I headed to Aloft Singapore Novena for my overnight stay. This Marriott property is modern, vibrant, and well-connected via MRT and public transport.
The hotel offers:
Stylish contemporary rooms
A lively lobby atmosphere
Comfortable bedding (perfect after early flights)
Easy access to key Singapore attractions
After check-in and a short rest, I was ready to explore one of Singapore’s most iconic attractions.
Evening at Gardens by the Bay 🌺✨
In the evening, I visited Gardens by the Bay, one of the most spectacular attractions in Singapore.
Located near Marina Bay Sands, this futuristic garden is famous for its Supertree Grove — towering vertical gardens that light up beautifully at night.
The highlight of the visit was the Garden Rhapsody Light & Sound Show, which takes place in the evening and is completely free to watch. As the Supertrees illuminate in sync with music, the entire atmosphere feels magical.
Why Gardens by the Bay is a must-visit:
Stunning skyline views
Free evening light show
Incredible photography spots
Easy access via MRT
It was the perfect way to end my Southeast Asia trip — surrounded by modern architecture, greenery, and Singapore’s iconic skyline.
Day 8 – Return Flight to Mumbai 🇮🇳
The next morning, I had an early flight back to Mumbai on Air India (Economy Class).
Thanks to efficient Singapore immigration and smooth airport procedures, departure was quick and stress-free. Flying Air India also allowed me to leverage my Maharaja Gold benefits, making the journey more comfortable even in economy class.
With that, my 8-day Malaysia via Singapore trip came to a memorable end — filled with luxury hotel stays using points, smooth visa-free travel, world-class public transport, and incredible city experiences.
